Alerta GelCube Air-Gel Pressure Relief Cushion

Sitting for long periods of time can lead to pressure sores if a proper pressure redistribution cushion isn't used, and this cushion will often be needed for use on chairs, sofas and wheelchairs alike. The versatile Alerta GelCube Air-Gel Pressure Relief Cushion provides excellent weight distribution with two layers of honeycomb air-gel cells, and its non-slip base makes it easy to use on all types of seating for most users anywhere from low to high risk of pressure sore development.

What's Included?

  • 1 x Pressure Relief Cushion
  • 1 x Waterproof Cover

Who Should Use the Alerta Air-Gel Pressure Relief Cushion?

This is one of the most versatile cushions on the market, as honeycomb air-gel cells not only provide balanced pressure distribution and blood circulation, but provide an incredible amount of general comfort as well. While this cushion is suitable for users up to a high risk of pressure sore development, it can also be used for lower risk users looking for a boost to their comfort in any sort of seating. Versatile and comfortable, this cushion is an ideal option for hospital, care home and residential environments.

How Do the Honeycomb Air-Gel Cells Provide Pressure Relief?

The unique patented cells in this cushion are made with flexible yet resilient gel, allowing them to react to slight movements from the user to provide balanced pressure distribution. The cells spread weight evenly across the user's skin, helping to prevent any 'hot spots' of pressure that can lead to pressure sores or redness. The responsive honeycomb shape flexes to move with skin, which works to reduce dangerous shear and friction forces over long periods of contact.

What Kinds of Seating Can the Cushion Be Used With?

Due to its non-slip silicone base and standard dimensions of 42 x 46cm, this cushion is an excellent comfort-boosting option for most seats including sofas, dining chairs and even wheelchairs. It's designed to be used for long hours in the day, and is easily washable if any spills occur, or for general maintenance of hygiene.

Is This Cushion Designed for Wheelchairs?

Yes, the Alerta Gel Pressure Relief Cushion is suitable for use with wheelchairs, as it features a silicone non-slip base to ensure it stays where it needs to when you're on the go. The 5cm depth is suitable for use with the majority of wheelchairs, conforming to safety standards.

What If I Need an Alternating Air Cushion?

For users at especially high risk of pressure sore development, often with very low levels of mobility, a pump-powered cushion with alternating air cells is often the best choice. If this has been recommended by your medical professional, we recommend either of the following options:

Is This Product Tested for Fire Safety?

Yes, all components of Alerta's pressure relief products are tested to comply with BS7177: Crib 5 fire safety regulations. This means that all foam, gel and covers for Alerta mattresses and cushions are tested to the most stringent fire safety guidelines, ensuring you stay fully compliant and up to date with regulations.

How Deep is This Cushion?

This gel pressure relief cushion combines two one-inch layers of air-gel honeycomb cells, combining to a final depth of 5cm. This provides the user with a slight height boost while using the cushion, while still providing a low enough profile for use with the vast majority of wheelchairs.

Is This Cushion Supplied with a Cover?

To improve durability and quality of care, this cushion is fitted with a multi-stretch and waterproof cover. This vapour-permeable PU cover is antimicrobial, to reduce bacteria and odour, and fully machine-washable so that you can keep your patient's environment sanitary at all times. To make it as easy as possible to identify fluid ingress, the cushion cover is designed with a white underside.

Is the Cushion Easy to Clean?

Yes, once removed from the cover, the cushion's two honeycomb air-gel cell layers can be separated, after which the layers can be washed with soap and water up to a maximum temperature of 70°C. Do not submerge the cushion in water for a long period of time, and do not squeeze the cushion after washing. Allow the cushion to dry on a flat surface, and do not store the cushion in direct sunlight.

The Alerta GelCube Cushion is simple to wash

Can the Cover Be Washed?

Yes, the cover can be machine washed at 40°C to ensure hygiene maintenance in care home and residential environments. The cover can then be tumble dried, but only if placed in a laundry net beforehand.
